Max Zorin also works undercover for the KGB providing technology for the Soviet Union. In the United States, Zorin forms a microchip production and distribution group made up of top executives in the industry.

Zorin plans to instigate a severe earthquake that will see California's Silicon Valley devastated by flood. Known as Operation Main Strike, the plan will destroy 80% of the world's microchip producers allowing Zorin's group to dominate the market.

James Bond (Roger Moore) is sent to investigate Max Zorin after a microchip recovered by Agent 007 is found to be made by Zorin Industries. In France, Bond discovers Zorin and Dr Carl Mortner (Willoughby Gray) are illegally injecting steroids into racehorses during competition.

As Operation Main Strike nears, Zorin has the mine flooded killing many of his loyal workers. May Day survives and in retribution removes the detonator from the piles of explosives in the mine that were to trigger the earthquake.

Zorin escapes the scene with Stacey in his airship, but is unable to stop Bond jumping onto a mooring rope. After attempting to kill 007, the blimp becomes stuck on top of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Max Zorin eventually falls to his death after a fierce battle with James Bond on the bridge. Stacey and 007 then watch as the airship explodes with Dr Mortner and Zorin's business partner, Scarpine (Patrick Bauchau), still inside.
