Dr No (1962):
The First James Bond Movie

Dr No Poster

The first James Bond film, Dr No, was produced in 1962 and is based on the Ian Fleming novel of the same name.

Starring Sean Connery as secret agent 007, the film set a precedent for what would become one of the most popular and influential series in film history.

James Bond travels to Jamaica to investigate the disappearance of a colleague. His discoveries take him to the picturesque island of Crab Key.

Here, Bond finds the beautiful Honey Ryder (Andress) coming out of the water in a white bikini - one of the most famous moments in cinematic history.

Bond and Honey are subsequently captured by the mysterious Dr Julius No (Wiseman), a reclusive scientific genius, of SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-Intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, Extortion).

Dr No has an evil plan which involves sabotaging the US Space Programme. Honey and Bond triumph after an amazing escape from Doctor No's lair.

As MI6 agent John Strangways was leaving the prestigious Queen's Club in Kingston he was killed by Dr. No's hit-men who were disguised as blind men.

Then Strangway's secretary was assassinated by the ruthless Three Blind Mice as she was about to radio MI6 Headquarters in London with information concerning the activities of Dr No in Jamaica.

Kingston Airport Pickup

Miss Taro
The dangerous Dr No had various undercover agents in Jamaica to operate on his behalf including the attractive Miss Taro.

In a romantic rendezvous at her hillside residence she attempted to have 007 murdered.

Professor Dent
Dent a metallurgist in Kingston was given a dangerous tarantula spider from Dr. No in order to kill Agent 007 after informing his superior that Bond had arrived in Jamaica.

When this murder attempt was unsuccessful, Dent tried to kill Bond with his gun - a decision that proved to be a grave mistake.

Dr. Julius No
The incredibly self-assured Dr No, was a radioactivity specialist and a leading representative of the dangerous organisation of SPECTRE.

He intended to devastate the space plans of the United States by severely interfering with rocket launches at Cape Canaveral.

Honey Ryder
James Bond was quite astounded when a beautiful young woman came out of the water on the idyllic Crab Key beach.

Filming for this scene took place in and around Dunn's River Falls, Jamaica.

Quarrel
This daring officer from the Central Intelligence Agency, also a Caribbean fisherman, was killed by the flames of a vehicle imitating a dragon, after taking Bond to the treacherous Crab Key.

Dragon Tank
Stories of a sinister looking dragon lurking on the island of Crab Key ensured sightseers were always kept at bay.

In actuality, the so-called dragon the public had seen was a tank-like vehicle armed with a lethal flamethrower.

Undercover Photographer
A lady attempted to photograph Bond at the Kingston Airport pretending to be a journalist. Agent 007 then proceeded to ruin the film in the camera after being suspicious.

Dr. No's Base
James Bond was detained by the guards of Dr. No and subsequently locked into a small room. Time would soon be up for the gorgeous Honey Ryder as well as 007.

Dr No - Crab Key Base

Unless Bond was able to escape by some means, then Dr. No would not only kill them, but wipe out the United States space plans.

007 was able to make it to the centre of Dr. No's base on Crab Key after using his cunning skills and survival instincts - he had to conquer an electrified barricade, scorching temperatures, and a flood of water in a nuclear shaft.

The Hands of the Villain
Dr No had lost his hands due to the terrible consequences of his explorations into nuclear power.

However, he invented mechanical hands in order to beat this impediment - the hands had the power to reduce stone to fine particles, yet he could still not carry out the simple task of shaking hands with Bond.
