to Monaco, Russia and Cuba

“If you think for one moment I don't have the balls to send a man out to die, your instincts are dead wrong … I've no compunction about sending you to your death …”

GoldenEye is the first James Bond movie to star Pierce Brosnan in the role of Agent 007. This exciting action film sees Bond opposed to a bitter enemy seeking world domination and wide scale destruction.

Bond and his fellow MI6 partner, 006 (Bean), carry out a bold invasion on a chemical weapons facility in the Soviet Union. Unfortunately things don’t go to plan and, whilst Bond is able to escape, 006 is captured by the Russian military.

Years later the controls to a dangerous weapon, known as a GoldenEye, are found to be stolen from a secret military facility which has been partially destroyed. The deadly weapon is capable of rapidly destroying electrical circuits in a given area.

To find the known ringleader 007 teams up with a survivor from the facility, Natalya Simonova (Scorupco). This person is thought to be working in the Russian mafia with Xenia Onatopp (Janssen), an attractive yet dangerous rival.

James Bond discovers the person responsible is Alec Trevelyan (Bean), 007’s previous MI6 colleague (Agent 006), a ruthless man who is orchestrating a bid to use the weapon to control the world.

QUOTES

Onatopp: ‘You don't need the gun.’
Bond: ‘Well, that depends on your definition of safe sex.’

Natalya: ‘Do you destroy every vehicle you get into?’
Bond: ‘Standard operating procedure. Boys with toys.’

Mishkin: ‘Good morning, Mr. Bond. Sit. I'm Defence Minister Dimitri Mishkin. So, by what means shall we execute you, Commander Bond?’
Bond: ‘What, no small talk? No chit chat? That's the trouble with the world today. No one takes the time to do a really sinister interrogation anymore. It's a lost art.’

INTERESTING FEATURES

Road Race
When Agent 007 embarked on a downhill race with a Ferrari en route to Monaco, Caroline realised her assignment was unfeasible.

M had sent her on a mission to the French Riviera to appraise James Bond. However, 007 surprised her when he abruptly pulled out of the race with the beautiful Xenia Onatopp.

Upon viewing the picturesque city of Monaco from the road high above, Bond promptly parked the car. He then impressed Caroline with a glass of champagne before they enjoyed a moment of intimacy in this romantic location.

Eurocopter Tiger
In the harbour of Monte Carlo Onatopp steals a trial Eurocopter Tiger helicopter from the French Navy. This powerful helicopter proved to be ideal in the get away after pinching the precious GoldenEye, as it could withstand electromagnetic pulses.

Severnaya
The Severnaya weapons centre in Siberia was cunningly raided by the Janus group. In a surprise attack they stole the valued GoldenEye disc before demolishing the entire facility.

General Ourumov and Xenia Onatopp, two of the best agents working for Janus, were responsible for breaking into this remote compound and killing the staff members.

The killers activated one of the GoldenEye satellites to wipe out the facility. Two people miraculously survived the catastrophe: Natalya Simonova, who observed the entire invasion, and Boris Grishenko, who was secretly allied with Janus.

Natalya Simonova
After the Severnaya disaster, Natalya’s life was in danger. She was a target of Janus, as she was the only witness, and she was also the key suspect by intelligence from Russia.

Natalya had the expertise to halt Janus’s attempts to destroy all data files with information on the GoldenEye. She was a talented programmer who greatly assisted 007 and disarmed a GoldenEye satellite in Cuba.

Stunning Pursuit
Agent 007 was assigned to Saint Petersburg where he eventually meets Trevelyan and Natalya.

Bond and Natalya experience a torrid ordeal before Natalya is kidnapped by General Ourumov. Bond then chased the enemy through the magnificent city streets in an army tank whilst keeping the Russian Secret Service at bay.

Xenia Onatopp
Trevelyan's key henchman was a previous Soviet pilot and a contract killer for Janus. She enjoyed watching people suffer and reaped immense pleasure when murdering her enemies.

Janus’s Cuban Base
Natalya and Bond determined that Janus had a base in Cuba after making use of Natalya’s skills.

At this location Janus intended to annihilate the economy of Britain by stealing from the Bank of England and erasing financial records. However, Natalya and Bond were on Janus's trail but were spotted arriving in Cuba and found themselves under attack.

After their plane had been shot down in the jungle, a brutal assault ensued. Bond eventually gained the upper hand and killed Onatopp in stunning fashion.

Useful Watch
An Omega Seamaster watch was given to Agent 007 by Q Branch for use on the GoldenEye mission. This incredible watch could cut through metal with a powerful laser beam. It saved Natalya and Bond from certain death when they were on Janus’s train that was about to explode.

Satellite Dish Battle
Trevelyan and Bond had a violent scuffle high above the satellite dish within the antenna after Janus’s plans had been ruined by 007.

Then, after impairing the antenna that controlled the GoldenEye satellite, Bond thrust Trevelyan to his death, before being picked up by a helicopter taken over by Natalya.

Janus
The key members of the Janus group consisted of several eccentrics. The genius of the group was a previous MI6 agent, Alec Trevelyan, who was assumed to have died on assignment nine years ago.

Boris Grishenko, an exceptional programmer, was a hi-tech computer nerd who enjoyed flaunting his abilities. General Ourumov was crucial to Janus in supplying important information from the Russian military.

Alec Trevelyan
Initially an MI6 agent, Trevelyan faked his death at a Soviet weapons plant when on assignment with 007.

He was a disillusioned and contemptuous figure who founded the Janus group. Trevelyan resented England and utterly despised Bond.

Explosive Pen
James Bond made great use of a special grenade pen produced by Q Branch. When infiltrating Janus’s base in Cuba, he set off an explosion with the pen leading to an epic battle with Trevelyan high on the antenna.
