James Bond Novels and Short Stories

There are 40 official James Bond novels that have been published by six different authors. The first book, Casino Royale, was written by Ian Fleming and published in 1953.

Ian Fleming created the 007 character and wrote the first twelve James Bond novels before passing away in 1964. His last 007 novel, The Man with the Golden Gun, was published posthumously in 1965. There are also several short story collections by Ian Fleming:

Under the pseudonym Robert Markham, Kingsley Amis continued the 007 novel series with the release of Colonel Sun in 1968.

In 1981, after a long hiatus in the official James Bond novel series, John Gardner released Licence Renewed. He would go on to write sixteen 007 novels including novelisations of the James Bond movies Licence to Kill (1989) and GoldenEye (1995).

Raymond Benson then took over as the official author of the 007 novels. Between 1997 and 2002 he published nine Bond stories, including the novelisations of Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), and Die Another Day (2002). Benson also produced the following James Bond short stories:

The two latest 007 novels are Devil May Care (2008) by Sebastian Faulks and Carte Blanche (2011) by Jeffery Deaver.
