In Skyfall Javier Bardem will star with Daniel Craig and Bérénice Marlohe

Javier Bardem is a popular Spanish actor who has appeared in nearly forty movies including The Sea Inside (2004) and No Country For Old Men (2007), for which he won an Oscar.

In the new James Bond movie, Skyfall, Bardem will play the main villain, Silva. The film, which also stars Daniel Craig and Bérénice Marlohe, is due to be released in late 2012, fifty years since the first 007 movie, Dr No.

Bardem was born on March 1st 1969 in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain and began to captivate audiences in the early 1990s with appearances in the Spanish films The Ages of Lulu (1990), Jamon Jamon (1992), and Golden Balls (1993).

His acting roles became more varied in the mid-1990s and success followed with great performances in the drama Ecstasy (1996) and the thriller Live Flesh (1997).

Javier Bardem rose to international stardom when he portrayed Cuban writer Reinaldo Arenas in Before Night Falls (2000). The movie won various awards and Bardem was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor.

This was followed by success in the crime thriller The Dancer Upstairs (2002), the Spanish drama Mondays in the Sun (2002), and the biographical drama The Sea Inside (2004).

In 2008 Bardem won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of hitman Anton Chigurh in the thriller No Country For Old Men (2007). The highly acclaimed film by Joel and Ethan Coen was based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy.

In the same year Bardem played artist Juan Antonio Gonzalo in the successful drama Vicky Christina Barcelona (2008) which also starred Rebecca Hall and Scarlett Johansson.

Bardem is a highly successful actor that has won many awards, including five Goya Awards in Spain. One of his recent films is the romantic drama Eat Pray Love (2010) which stars Julia Roberts and Richard Jenkins and features beautiful scenery in Italy, India and Indonesia.

In 2012 Bardem will feature in the romantic drama To the Wonder by director Terrence Malick. The movie will also star Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Olga Kurylenko and Rachel Weisz.

Sons of the Clouds: The Last Colony is a documentary produced in 2012 by Alvaro Longoria, Javier Bardem and Lilly Hartley. It examines the political uprising in Western Sahara, the resulting instability of the region and the effect this has had on its people.

Bardem is married to Spanish actress Penélope Cruz. Together they have a son, Leo, who was born in 2011.

Bardem is an avid fan of rugby and actively played for fourteen years from the age of nine.

Skyfall is due for release in November 2012 and had an official press conference in London on November 3rd 2011. Here, Bardem stated it was a great honour to be part of the new 007 movie and that the film has a very solid story.
