Melina Havelock is a strong-willed and dignified woman, the beautiful leading lady in the 1981 James Bond film For Your Eyes Only. Played by French actress Carole Bouquet, Melina is half English and half Greek, and the daughter of Timothy (Jack Hedley) and Iona Havelock (Toby Robins).

Melina is a marine archaeologist and grew up with her family on the Triana, her father’s cruise vessel, travelling to various places including northern Africa, Greece, and Turkey.

Melina Havelock flies by seaplane to visit her parents aboard the Triana in Kalami Bay, Corfu. Unbeknown to her, the pilot is actually dangerous hit man Hector Gonzales (Stefan Kalipha). After greeting her parents on board, the seaplane flies low over the vessel and opens fire killing Melina’s parents instantly.

Melina vows revenge on Gonzales and eventually tracks him down to his lavish villa in Spain through a detective agency. Here, she uses a crossbow to kill him allowing James Bond (Roger Moore) to make a daring get away from Gonzales’ men.

Together they escape in Melina’s Citroen 2CV and, in a stunning chase through the hills and villages of Spain, they evade the enemy. Melina Havelock later informs Agent 007 that she is resolute in finding out who hired Gonzales to slay her parents - she tells Bond that Greek women always avenge their loved ones.

007 tells Melina that her father was secretly carrying out an operation to retrieve the Automatic Targeting Attack Communicator (ATAC) from beneath the ocean. This crucial assignment on behalf of the British Secret Service required the device to be extracted from the sunken wreck of the St Georges fishing trawler.

Melina Havelock is able to interpret the shorthand from her father’s daily log of activities enabling them to recover the ATAC using the Neptune submarine. However, upon surfacing, the pair has the ATAC confiscated by Aris Kristatos and his men.

Melina and Bond are then hauled behind Kristatos’ power boat in shark ridden waters. However, they are able to make a remarkable escape after fastening their rope to a piece of coral.

On board the St Georges they obtain a crucial clue from Max, the parrot, who repeats the words: “ATAC to St Cyril’s”. Bond and Melina then travel to the deserted St Cyril’s Monastery high atop a rock pillar in Metéora, Greece.

After a daring raid on the monastery, Melina tells Bond to move out of her way so that she can kill Kristatos. However, Milos Columbo quickly hurls a knife in Kristatos’ back before she has the chance take aim with her crossbow.

Carole Bouquet

Carole Bouquet is a fine-looking French actress and model born in Paris, France on August 18th 1957. She is known worldwide for playing the character of Melina Havelock in the James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only (1981).

Bouquet has had roles in over fifty movies from the late 1970s as well appearing in television and theatre.

Carole Bouquet grew up in a wealthy suburb of Paris and was raised solely by her father from age three after her mother returned to her roots of southern France.

After studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique in Paris, Bouquet went on to make her film debut in That Obscure Object of Desire (1977) aged 18.

Carole Bouquet has mainly appeared over the years in French films, but is most remembered for her role of James Bond girl Melina Havelock in For Your Eyes Only (1981).

In 1989, Bouquet played Florence Barthélémy in the French romantic comedy Too Beautiful for You and won the César Award for Best Actress (1990).

During the 1990s, she appeared in many French movies. In this same period she also appeared as a promotional model for the legendary perfume Chanel No 5. After 2000 Bouquet starred in several impressive French comedy films.

She has also been married to film producer Jean-Pierre Rassam, by which she has a son Dimitri; and immunologist Jacques Liebowitch.

Bouquet owns property on the Italian island of Pantellaria where she produces white wine.
